Abstract

Code of Ethics for the Judges of the Republic of Lithuania. The purpose of the Code is to define the principles of conduct and behaviour to be observed by a judge in the exercise of his or her statutory functions and in the performance of his or her duties; to reinforce the priority of justice and other commonly accepted human values in the work of the judiciary; and to increase public confidence in the courts and in the judiciary, and to enhance the authority of judges. Given the role of the judiciary in guaranteeing human rights and the rule of law in the administration of justice, public confidence in the judiciary, in the ethics of the judiciary and in the integrity of the judiciary is essential. The ethical conduct of judges and compliance with the requirements of judicial ethics is one of the essential elements of judicial activity.
