The Ethical Charter issued by Reporters Without Borders Switzerland sets out principles for the organization’s members regarding the organisation’s independence and governance, journalistic ethics and transparency. The Charter also addresses the issues of partnerships, corruption, conflict of interest, gifts, respect for the environment, discrimination, fundraising and professional travel, and describes how these principles are established and possible sanctions. The Charter states that the organization acts in line with several international references. These include: Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights; Article 19 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights; UN General Assembly Resolution No. 59; references to the UNESCO Constitution; the Windhoek Declaration; and the UN Human Rights Council Resolution of 5 July 2012.
