Abstract

A Charter for Fundamental Digital Rights (Eine Charta für digitale Grundrechte)—issued by Digitale Gesellschaft (Société numérique; Eng: “Digital Society”, non-profit organization)—aims at the protection of citizens and consumers in the digital age. The Charter is divided into three sections covering fundamental rights, civil rights and consumer rights. Fundamental or human rights address equality and freedom, state protection of human rights, freedom of expression and assembly, privacy, data protection and security. Civil rights deal with transparency, e-government and digital democracy. Consumer rights include free access and net neutrality, open standards and free software, culture, science and education.
