Abstract

The Charta (Charter) is the ethical Code issued by Qualität im Journalismus (Quality in Journalism Association) stating the rights and duties of journalists. It aims to establish guidelines through mission statements, qualitative standards, and editorial statutes that ensure internal press freedom and define journalists’ participation rights. The Charter advocates for the continuous training and development of journalists while fostering good working conditions and securing social protection. The Charter underscores the importance of mastery in journalism, advocating for intensive research, reliance on reliable resources, and independence. The Charter reinforces its principles through an internal culture of critique, while also inviting external media criticism, adapting and evolving from new insights to uphold the highest standards of journalistic integrity.
