As part of the Gender & Diversity Lectures series hosted by the Austrian Academy of Sciences, Krisztina Rozgonyi and Marie Rathmann presented their current DIACOMET research at the panel discussion “Diverse Public?” on April 23rd 2025. The event, organised by the Working Group on Non-Discrimination (AKG), featured four projects of the Institute for Comparative Media and Communication Studies (CMC) that focus on gender and diversity in public communication.
Representing DIACOMET, Krisztina Rozgonyi provided insights into the interplay of diversity concepts between the European legal framework and ethical codes and guidelines, and discussed how these documents reflect and shape approaches to inclusion and representation. In addition, Marie Rathmann presented the role of these codes and guidelines in promoting diversity, equality and inclusion (DEI) in media organisations and related institutions – highlighting how such frameworks can serve as tools for both structural and cultural change.
In the final part of the discussion, the panelists reflected on the democratic relevance of their work, the importance of gender-sensitive methodologies and the institutionalisation of gender and diversity research. They also addressed the limits and implications of tackling inequality – positioning these issues as cross-cutting concerns that inform and connect all their projects.
