On February 5-6 2026, the Austrian project partners presented their latest research findings at the conference “Digitale Teilhabe. Medien als Bedingung von Partizipation und Freiheit?” (“Digital participation. Media as a prerequisite for participation and freedom?”) at the Katholischen Stiftungshochschule in Munich. The event brought together over 90 participants from academia and practice.

The presentation by Tobias Eberwein, Sandra Förster, Christina Krakovsky, Marina Lindmeyr, Marie Rathmann and Krisztina Rozgonyi demonstrated both the potential and limitations of dialogue-oriented and inclusive approaches:

– Many ethical codes and guidelines are primarily geared towards the needs of media professionals.

– Citizens remain largely invisible as equal communication partners.

– Although dialogue-based practices are mentioned, they often remain marginal.

– A theoretically sound inclusive communication ethics have hardly been developed to date.

Various approaches to teaching good communication practices were discussed, including our ‘dilemma game’. Many thanks to the organisers and all participants for the exciting discussions and inspiring exchange!
