A new chapter acknowledging DIACOMET has been published by Nordicom, University of Gothenburg. The chapter, titled “Engaging in civic dialogue or opinion battles? The epistemic risks informed approach to platform governance”, was written by our partner Auksė Balčytienė (Vytautas Magnus University) and was published in the edited volume “Digital media shadowing democracy: Technology, communication, and power”.
The chapter examines how platformisation, disinformation, hate speech, and other forms of dysfunctional communication create epistemic risks for democratic societies. It argues that societal resilience in digital environments requires an ecosystemic approach, addressing both the structural and algorithmic features of platforms and the lived experiences, worldviews, and capacities of citizens.
