Abstract

The Editorial Charter of the ÖSTERREICH media group establishes the basis for collaboration between management and editorial teams across its publications (ÖSTERREICH, oe24 and oe24.at). The charter presents the media as independent, critical and reader-oriented, and states that they are committed to democratic values, human rights, the rule of law and a socially oriented market economy. The charter promotes pluralism and tolerance, and rejects political extremism. It establishes key ethical and professional standards, including adherence to the Austrian Press Code of Ethics, and sets out principles of editorial independence, fairness and objectivity, as well as the avoidance of conflicts of interest. Journalists are protected from being forced to publish content that goes against their beliefs and must not exploit their position for personal gain. Overall, the charter is a voluntary internal agreement designed to ensure responsible journalism, safeguard integrity and support the long-term development of the media group.
