Abstract

The “Charta” (Charter) is the ethical code issued by Qualität im Journalismu (Quality in journalism association) stating the rights and duties of journalists. It aims at establishing guardrails through mission statements, qualitative standards, and editorial statutes that ensure internal press freedom and define journalists’ participation rights. It advocates for the continuous training and development of journalists while fostering good working conditions and securing social protection. The Charter underscores the importance of mastery in journalism, advocating for intensive research, reliance on reliable resources, and independence. It states that it reinforces its principles through an internal culture of critique, while also inviting external media criticism, adapting and evolving from new insights to uphold the highest standards of journalistic integrity.
