Abstract

The Austrian Code of Journalism of the Austrian Journalists Club (ÖJC) emphasizes the importance of objective, critical, and independent journalism in society and sets out the principles of professional ethics to uphold and promote the profession. The Code applies to all journalists, regardless of their employment status. Journalists should consider the potential consequences and impacts of their work on the public. Violations of human dignity and rights as well as discrimination are strictly prohibited. Journalists must uphold fundamental rights and the freedom of the press without exception. Journalistic activities should not be used to pursue personal or third-party interests.
