Abstract

The “Code voor de journalistiek” was created by the Netherlands Association of Chief Editors (Nederlands Genootschap van Hoofdredacteuren), a consultative body of (deputy) chief editors of Dutch newspapers, magazines, news agencies, radio and television programs and news websites. The Code builds on principles as developed by professional journalists both nationally and internationally but is supplemented with principles and ideals as put forward from outside the profession. The principles cover areas such as truthfulness, independence, and fairness. Members of the Association are in no way bound by this Code. The Code serves only as a starting point for debate.
