Abstract

Nieuwsuur is a television programme by the Dutch National Public Broadcasters (NPO) that provides background to the news. The “Journalistic Code” consists of a set of guidelines and agreements that journalists working for Nieuwsuur must adhere to. The principles of independence and impartiality are paramount. The Code is intended to make professional journalistic standards visible to the outside world. According to Nieuwsuur, the Code allows viewers to assess whether Nieuwsuur’s editors are living up to their own standards.
