Abstract

Nieuwscheckers is a fact-checking initiative of the Journalism and New Media programme at Leiden University. In general, Nieuwscheckers commits to the principles of the Poynter Institute’s International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN). The Guidelines created by Nieuwscheckers, therefore, complement these existing principles. In the Guidelines, principles such as honesty, reliability, independence, and impartiality are covered. The principle of transparency is emphasized as they state providing transparency about sources, organisation and funding, and its methods. There is detailed information on how Nieuwscheckers deals with mistakes and rectifications.
