Algorithm Watch’s Policy and Advocacy describes the ‘governance’ frameworks aiming to enable democratic control of algorithmic decision-making (ADM) systems and ensure accountability. The concept of governance is understood comprehensively, which means that the organization’s policy and advocacy seek to strengthen the autonomy of individuals in dealing with ADM systems; to foster transparency around their use. The frameworks also aim to develop proposals for policymakers, public administration and private companies on how to use ADM systems responsibly, to create tools to assess when ADMs violate democratic standards, fundamental rights, and principles of justice and the rule of law.
