Abstract

The University of Helsinki is the largest and oldest higher education institution in Finland. Its Social Media Guidelines are intended for all of the close to 40,000 employees and students. The goal of the Guidelines is to encourage the use of social media and to enhance the university’s visibility on these platforms. The Guidelines aim to promote the visibility of a science-based worldview on social media and define the value base as truth, bildung (the Germanic concept of self-cultivation involving education and philosophy), freedom, and community. Additionally, the Guidelines provide practical advice for preparing for harassment situations.
