The DIACOMET game methodology was presented at the 11th International Conference on Higher Education Advances (HEAd’25), where dr. Mari-Liisa Parder from the Tartu team gave a presentation titled: “What would you do, if you were Kim?” Using narrative-based method for improving dialogic communication ethics abilities.
The presentation, which was co-authored together with professor Halliki Harro-Loit, highlighted how we can operationalise abstract values and principles that guide dialogic communication ethics into real life cases in narrative form. The method trains five moral sub-competences: moral sensitivity, moral awareness, moral imagination, moral reasoning and moral judgement.
The article explains how narratives should be created in order for them to work for the intended purpose. The role of the agent, information given in the narrative as well as highlighting the relevant normative discourses for the communication ethics are explained.
The DIACOMET game will focus on four target groups: 1) journalists and communication experts; 2) organisation representatives; 3) higher education; 4) schools (teachers and students). For each of the target group 9 cases will be prepared with presenting narratives from 2 perspectives.
The game will be educational (fostering moral/ethical competence), flexible (can be played in various settings), relevant (cases are drawn from real-life situations), dialogic (includes meeting other perspectives), and engaging (often gets positive feedback from the players).
The method will be published in HEAd’25 conference proceedings, while the article can already be read on this link.
