Abstract

The state-funded Code of Conduct of Yle, Finland’s Public Broadcasting Company defines the general value foundation of the public service media company for all its employees and partners. The Code of Conduct emphasizes the significance of public broadcasting as a cornerstone of democracy, the defence of freedom of speech, the promotion of equality, transparency, anti-corruption, and commitment to international human rights agreements. Founded in 1926, Yle invests in the development of journalistic standards and ethics. In 2014, Yle established an ethics manager position, tasked with overseeing and advancing the implementation of the Code of Conduct and other ethical guidelines within the organization. The model was adopted from the BBC.
