Abstract

The “Code of Conduct on Countering Illegal Hate Speech Online” by the European Commission states that IT companies such as Facebook, Microsoft, Twitter, and YouTube have the responsibility to combat illegal hate speech online while promoting freedom of expression. Therefore, they agreed to mandatory support the European Commission and EU Member States in combating illegal hate speech online to protect freedom, tolerance, and democratic discourse.
