Abstract

The “Guidelines for Reporting on Children” were prepared in cooperation between the Journalists’ Ethics Council and other stakeholders, such as the Slovenian Human Rights Ombudsman, the General Police Directorate, the Peace Institute and the Slovenian Association of Friends of Youth. They include provisions regarding the respect of a child’s dignity; protecting personal data; interviewing a child; reporting on sensitive life situations; reporting on missing children; etc. Journalists shall use the proportionality test when deciding whether a child’s right to privacy takes precedence over the public’s right to be informed.
