Abstract

The United Nations Secretariat has voluntarily issued “Guidelines for the Personal Use of Social Media” for its staff members. While the UN respects their personal views and beliefs, it emphasizes that employees should ensure that their conduct on social media aligns with the principles outlined in the “UN Charter” and complies with the “UN Standards of Conduct and Staff Regulations”. Moreover, the code outlines the importance that any statements or declarations made by employees on social media are consistent with the ideals of peace, respect for human rights, and human dignity.
